“Window Rock, the Navajo Nation Government is within the
Saint Michaels Chapter area. Technically, an administrative
area, like the District of Columbia, was withdrawn for
governmental operations by BIA. This administrative
set-side was needed to accommodate the growing government
programs under BIA, IHS, and the Navajo Nation. Within the
administrative area have been built not only government
offices , but staff housing, emergency response facilities,
law enforcement buildings and other governmental
facilities. Most of the stone mason buildings, including
the Tribal Counsel chamber, were built by the BIA during
the 1940’s to the 1960’s. Certain tribal operations and
programs have since the 1970’s taken over these buildings.
One of the two Navajo Tribal Administrative Complex
buildings was constructed around 1978; while the next one
was built a few years later. St. Michaels Chapter and the
Navajo Nation Government are here to help the youth." Taken
